Looks like W is coming through on one of his campaign promises and has nominated (gasp!) a judicial conservative. Of course, the left wing of the Internetweb is going nuts.
Here's a hint...
When your guy loses the general election...
When your party has steadily lost election cycles and is the minority...
When your party had it's way when it was in control...
The current party in power doesn't have any obligation whatsoever to "reach across the aisle".
Lord knows that Kerry certainly wouldn't be nominating a centrist candidate and if he did, his base would be going apeshit.
If the Dems try and block this one, it's time for the nuclear option.
